The Lunchtime Lecture Series, in which artists, critics, curators, art historians, theorists and others are invited to speak and make presentations to the body of the School as a whole, and which is also open to the public, has been part of the School’s activities for some time. However in recent years it has grown both in terms of scope and popularity. Attendance at these lectures is compulsory for first years, who report on the lectures as part of the Foundation Course. These lectures expose students to the full range of artistic practice and introduce them to significant figures in the art world, both locally and internationally. The vocational interests of students are addressed by inviting gallerists – who are able to discuss professional practice; critics, who aid the understanding of the process of public review and theorists who help students contextualise their own work. Exposure to practicing professionals in the field enables students to position themselves within the field of art production after graduation.
